What causes hair to turn yellow?
14 June 2021
Blonde is one of the most beautiful hair colors – but also one of the most challenging ones to deal with. Every blonde shade and tone attract special attention – if you like it or not. No matter if you color your hair at home or at the hairdresser's, every blonde longs for a bright and healthy looking blonde tone. But why does this yellow tinge always show up? Here are a few exciting answers for you!
Common mistakes made when lightening hair
Eine Bleach is a lightening agent, not a hair color. In other words: Bleaching removes the hair's natural or color pigments and provides the perfect canvas for blonde hair. During processing hair goes through various stages of lightening, from dark to red, red-orange, orange and yellow to light blonde. A lot of patience is required when bleaching hair, especially with dark hair. If bleach is rinsed out too early, too many ‘warm’ pigments remain in the hair, which will result in a yellow or even orange hair color. Making up for this is every hairdresser's nightmare.
Wrong product choice
The darker the hair, the more lightening power is needed to master all stages of the lightening process. If processing stops at the yellow stage, which is one level before the hair would turn blonde, the bleach was possibly too weak for the starting level. In such cases, the process must be repeated many times, which will visibly damage the hair structure. If you don’t want to lighten your hair too much, you can also achieve a beautiful natural blonde with a classic permanent hair color. However, this only works on naturally light hair that is not colored/chemically treated, otherwise the processing will stop at the stages red, orange and/or yellow.
Take good care of your blonde hair
Yellow is neutralized with the complementary color violet. Hair care products for cool blonde hair are based on violet pigments to ensure that blonde stays cool, fresh and shiny bright for much longer. Please don’t use lightening sprays, they gradually lighten your hair while causing severe damage to your hair structure. It is very important to use treatments regularly to achieve beautiful, healthy hair. Let the pro do it. Whether you desire a natural looking blonde or a striking bright blonde, a professional colorist will definitely create a gorgeous blonde. Play it safe, have your hair done by a professional and enjoy a great experience before, during and after bleaching. .
Sun and yellow hair
When hair is exposed to sunlight, it gets lighter - and it doesn’t make a difference if your hair is natural, lightened or colored. Sunlight lifts the natural or color pigments. Melanin is a natural pigment that determines the natural hair color. Depending on the natural color, hair contains either more eumelanin or pheomelanin. More pheomelanin is found in blonde hair, which is destroyed more quickly by UV rays. That is why blonde hair becomes lighter and yellow-gold in summer.
Because your hair is too individual for standard.
