Jojoba:

The hair care savior in your shampoo and conditioner

Enhance the power of jojoba seeds in your hair care regime

You’ve probably heard of body care products or shampoos with jojoba. But what is jojoba? – and why is it so popular in skin and hair care products? One thing’s for sure: We add jojoba to the list of our carefully selected ingredients for a good reason! Read below to learn more about how this ingredient is obtained and how we use it in our customized products.

What is jojoba?

Jojoba is the name given to a plant and the products derived from it, such as fruits, seeds and oil. The jojoba bush (Simmondsia chinensis) is a hardy plant: It thrives in barren desert regions with extremely dry climates and major temperature fluctuations between night and day. The jojoba bush obtains its water and nutrients through its roots, which extend several metres into the ground. The dense plant grows hard, pale green leaves the entire year round. In its natural habitat, it can grow to heights of up to 5 metres and live for 200 years!

The jojoba shrub is also known by a whole host of other names. Due to its fruits, which are initially green and then turn brown over time, it is also referred to as the wild hazelnut and coffeeberry.

Jojoba seeds and oil

Jojoba fruits contain jojoba seeds: Around one and a half centimeters in length and a centimeter tall, they resemble peanuts, but are dark brown and slightly wrinkled. Their unspectacular appearance contains a hidden secret: Obtained from pressing the seeds, jojoba oil is a valuable cosmetic superhero! Centuries ago, indigenous people started using the jojoba seeds to brew a healing and nourishing balm.

Technically speaking, jojoba oil isn’t an oil but, with a melting point of seven degrees Celsius, the only natural wax that is considered fluid. Another impressive fact: As jojoba oil doesn’t contain any triglycerides, it can be stored for a quarter of a century without going rancid! Clear, golden and delicately scented, jojoba oil is not suitable for use as a cooking oil, however it's perfectly designed to extend the shelf life of hair and skin care products. Treat your skin and hair: Jojoba oil naturally protects your hair against light. Giving you a certain level of protection against harmful UV rays without synthetic ingredients!

The fluid plant wax also contains several valuable ingredients to guarantee beautiful skin and healthy hair, for example:

  • Pro-vitamin A is also known as beta carotene. The body transforms the ingredient into vitamin A to activate its antioxidative effect and protect skin cells against damage caused by free radicals.
  • Vitamin E is also known for its antioxidative properties and can work to combat premature skin aging, among other benefits.
  • Vitamin B6 helps to regulate sebum production and restore the balance of stressed scalps.

Jojoba oil also inhibits inflammation. It prevents skin from drying out without leaving behind any oily residue; it wraps around hair like a protective cocoon and provides rich nourishment without weighing down your luscious locks.
